Second Point of Presence in Maine brings robust, high-speed connectivity to the strongest economic region in the state

PORTLAND, MAINE – February 21, 2024 – Hurricane Electric, the world’s largest IPv6-native Internet backbone announced today that Hurricane Electric has deployed a new Point of Presence (PoP) in Deep Edge Realty in Portland, ME. The new PoP is located at 340 Cumberland Avenue, Portland, ME 04101.

The 340 Cumberland Content Hotel has 52,272 square feet of space divisible by racks, cages, or NNN suites in a location in downtown Portland, just 4.1 miles from the Portland International Jetport. This tier III facility has more than 10 local, regional, and long-haul fiber network providers and is a Northern New England Neutral Internet Exchange (NNENIX) Point-of-Presence.

Southern Maine is known for wholesale and retail industries, as well as finance, health, and tourism; and has a fast-growing technology sector. The facility serves those industries by providing advanced access control and video surveillance powered by Central Maine Fiber, with diverse generator capacity on site. With private suites, users can build their own secure, network hub in a fit-out-ready space.

This PoP is Hurricane Electric’s second location in Maine and 7th in the New England and will provide the region with improved fault tolerance, load balancing and congestion management in the delivery of next-generation IP connectivity services.

“Portland is an interconnection hub for Maine and all of New England and we are thrilled to be able to provide connectivity to Deep Edge Realty’s customers,” said Mike Leber, President of Hurricane Electric. “This PoP supports our goal of ensuring customers have IP transit with low latency and access to thousands of networks for enterprises around the world.”

Customers of Deep Edge Realty and in and around Portland, ME now have a variety of new connectivity options and access to Hurricane Electric’s extensive IPv4 and IPv6 network through 100GE (100 Gigabit Ethernet), 10GE (10 Gigabit Ethernet) and GigE (1 Gigabit Ethernet) ports. Additionally, customers at the facility are able to exchange IP traffic with Hurricane Electric’s vast global network, which offers over 30,000 BGP sessions with over 10,000 different networks via 310 major exchange points and thousands of customer and private peering ports.
