Welcome to the July issue of the Milldam Monthly. The dog days of summer have arrived and we hope that you’ve been able to take some time off for a vacation, learn something new, catch up on news, or even plan ahead for the fall. Our July newsletter has been curated to help you do all of the above!
- If you’re in need of some vacation inspiration, take a look at our Human Interest piece this month, featuring a private club for swapping luxurious vacation homes!
- To sharpen your vocabulary, we dug up some fun technology terms as part of our PR Tip of the Month– see how many you recognize!
- While summer is sometimes thought of as a slower season for business, our Company News section is proving that the opposite can be true (and that PR never takes a vacation)!
- Finally, if you’re entertaining some travel opportunities this fall, browse our listing of upcoming Industry Events. Give us a shout to see which ones we’re planning on attending!
Be sure to watch our social channels in the next few weeks. We’ve recently enjoyed both Hosting Con and DCD Internet and have documented what we’ve learned, who we’ve met, and new insights in our industry.
As always, if you are looking for PR advice or have questions regarding marketing strategy, please feel free to reach out. In the meantime, follow us on our social media channels to stay informed about what Milldam Public Relations and our clients are up to this month!

Top Vacation Spots at the Tips of Your Fingers
Over time, the allure of your vacation home may begin to wear off, leaving your expensive villa empty and unused. This is where 3rd Home, a private club for owners of luxury homes comes into play.
Authored by Steven Casale, our Human Interest piece of the month, “Trading One Luxe Accommodation for Another” highlights the benefits of becoming a member of this elite club. Once you have joined and made your stay available, members are eligible to choose from 3,600 properties across the world.
Depending on whether you’re in the mood to sprawl out on the pebble beaches of the French Riviera or get cozy in a mountain lodge in Whistler, Canada, 3rd Home makes it easy for privileged homeowners to choose their next vacation destination.
Consider taking your high-tech interests onto a high-profile vacation!

Ever wonder what these terms mean
to
the IT world?
Whether creating new collateral, press releases or bylined articles, we use a lot of technical language when writing for our clients. Some of the terms that come across our desk we know, some we don’t. Many of them cause us to pause or laugh – what is the real meaning of a pizza box server anyways!?
While you may know all of the technical jargon, we found it pretty amusing to pull together a variety of terms that mean one thing to the general public and something altogether different to those of us working in IT.
Take a look and see if you know what these terms mean, besides a literal translation!
Pizza box server: The term “pizza box server” refers to the shape of a computer server enclosed in a rectangular and horizontally-arranged chassis and often installed in a rack with similar servers.
Cookie: A cookie is a small amount of data generated by a website and saved by your web browser. Their most common purpose is to store login information for a certain site.
Spider: A spider is a software program that travels the Web, locating and indexing websites for search engines.
Carbon Footprint: A company’s carbon footprint is the amount of CO2 emissions its operations produce.
Headless Server: This is a computing device without a local interface that is dedicated to providing services to other computers and their users. Headless, in this context, basically means that the computing device has no monitor or peripherals, such as a keyboard and mouse.
UPS: Not to be confused with the package delivery company, UPS is an acronym for Uninterruptible Power Supply. This is a device used to supply short-term power to computing equipment for brief outages or until an alternate power source, such as a generator, can begin supplying power.
Tin Whiskers: Tin whiskers are individual crystals of tin that grow spontaneously from a tinned surface, usually as a result of stress of some sort. The phenomenon poses problems for manufacturers who would prefer using tin rather than lead for interconnections.
