The WHIR recently featured Hurricane Electric’s newest expansion in Canada. From the article:

Colocation hosting and Internet backbone provider Hurricane Electric announced on Thursday it has added new points of presence at two Canadian locations, located at the Global Server Centre in Winnipeg and DataHive in Calgary.

The new PoPs represents Hurricane Electric’s fourth expansion globally in only the last month.

Hurricane provides IPv4 and IPv6 connectivity, with Canadian locations already established in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. Adding the two new locations improves HE’s Canadian market service, according to Hurricane.

“We are pleased to offer reliable and cost-effective connectivity options while strengthening our commitment to the Canadian market,” said Mike Leber, president of Hurricane Electric. “Customers of both Global Server Centre in Winnipeg and DataHive in Calgary will have access to the depth and reach of Hurricane Electric’s global network, allowing for reduced router hops and improved fault tolerance.”

While HE’s status as a leader in connecting IPv6 networks is well established, the explosion of IPv6-capable devices and connections and the continued adoption of the protocol continue to drive demand for tunneling and related connectivity services.

The point of presence expansions by HE will keep the heat on in its competition with Cisco over the method of choice for IPv6 transition.

Winnipeg’s Global Server Center specializes in managed business-critical application hosting, while Datahive promotes itself as “the most efficient and cost-effective way to manage your IT solutions.”
