Future Facilities To Host Webinar On Reducing Risk And Costs In The Data Center

February 5 webinar to discuss new metric for increased data center performance, while highlighting case study from large global bank.

January 28, 2015

On Thursday, February 5, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. PST (12:00 p.m. EST, 5:00 p.m. GMT), Future Facilities will host a complimentary webinar titled, “Best Practices alone aren’t enough to reduce risk and costs in Data Center Operations” to discuss a new measure of data center performance called“ACE” (availability, capacity and efficiency) that reveals the relationship between operational decisions and business outcomes.

Many data center owner/operators base their future IT decisions on the assumption that their current infrastructure can accommodate any changes that the business demands. However, in practice, sole reliance on established systems and institutional best practices often is one of the most common causes of problems for data centers and businesses as they adapt to new needs. Ultimately, most companies don’t systematically assess performance or quantify risk within their data centers. Problems remain hidden until damage is evident, usually causing a significant downtime event.

To help owner/operators appraise and ultimately improve their data center performance, Future Facilities developed the ACE Assessment. ACE scores the data center on how compromised its Availability, physical Capacity and cooling Efficiency have become by analyzing and mapping the interrelationship between the three variables. This key information determines how well a data center is performing, allowing facility staff to make modifications to previously unknown problems and optimize operation and sustainability.

“Running a data center without periodically evaluating the gap between its design potential and actual operational output puts a business at serious risk,” said Sherman Ikemoto, Director of Future Facilities. “Established practices are often the very cause of risk to IT services, increasing operating costs and decreasing energy efficiency. In this webinar, participants will learn about the ACE Assessment and how simulation can help owner/operators predict and understand the performance impact of business driven changes to the data center.”

The February fifth webinar will also include a case study on how a global bank utilized the information from its ACE Assessment to make informed decisions and meet business requirements within its 22,000 ft2 data center. By making improvements based on the recommendations from the 6SigmaDC computer mapping of the data center, the bank has improved IT resilience and facility loading capacity in addition to saving more than $1 million per year in energy bills.
