The lighting site took note of the immense energy savings strides made through this recent collaboration between Bluestone Energy and Mack Technologies. From the article:
Norwell, Massachusetts-based Bluestone Energy Services, LLC, reported that it has helped Mack Technologies implement a comprehensive LED lighting retrofit at its Westford, Massachusetts manufacturing facility. This project, which is expected to substantially reduce energy consumption at the facility, is said to be the largest retrofit deployment of LED lighting in any manufacturing space in New England. The new lighting project is expected to help Mack Technologies, a provider of complex contract manufacturing services (including printed circuit board assembly, electromechanical assembly and full system assembly), meet new sustainability goals, cut costs and significantly improve the working conditions of its employees.
Mack Technologies estimates that it will save over $50,000 in annual lighting costs and will receive over $130,000 through a combination of state and federal tax credits, and utility incentives provided by National Grid. With the help of the federal tax credits and the utility incentives in addition to the energy and maintenance savings, the LED lighting project is projected to give Mack Technologies a two year payback.
Bluestone replaced 2,600 T-8 fluorescent bulbs with high efficiency Lithonia LED fixtures in Mack’s manufacturing space, and Bluestone also replaced several hundred older bulbs with high-performance T-8 bulbs in Mack’s offices. The project leveraged wireless controls using the ZigBee Certified ControlScope™ platform provided by Daintree Networks Savings to further increased the energy savings by more than fifty percent. The system reportedly gives Mack Technologies the ability to expand their facility’s energy efficient controls wirelessly, for decades to come. The installation process across Mack’s 108,000 ft2 facility required 3,000 person-hours of labor.
“Concerns about initial cost, relative youth of the industry, and LED illumination characteristics made some manufacturers cautious about conversion,” said Paul Maher, Facilities Manager at Mack Technologies. “Our decision to move forward was based on a careful assessment of LED lighting quality and cost, as well as our desire to be a leader in corporate social responsibility.”
