What grabs your attention the most effectively: text or visuals? The November edition of the Milldam Monthly explores the important roles that visuals can play in our professional lives. Our PR Tip illustrates why publishing visual content is more memorable than standalone text when you’re trying to connect with current or potential clients. As you’ve heard us say many times, adding a graphic to your press release or social post is crucial when you’re trying to stand out in a crowd!
When you’re looking to gain an edge over the competition, sometimes the speed in which you follow-up can make the difference. This month’s newsletter also considers how new apps for your phone can make your life a little less stressful as you organize, prioritize and connect with new contacts after a trade show or networking event.
We also want to send a warm THANK YOU to our clients as we reflect on what we’re grateful for this Thanksgiving season. We are thankful that you look to Milldam Public Relations when you need to bring attention to your important news and share meaningful announcements with the world (the most recent of which are below)!
As always, if you are looking for PR advice or have questions regarding marketing strategy, please feel free to reach out. In the meantime, follow us on our social media channels to stay informed about what Milldam Public Relations and our clients are up to.
Best Wishes for a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving!

Business Card Solutions
After a busy conference, we’re often overwhelmed by the number of new contacts we’ve met and business cards acquired. They may get lost in our purses or stuck in our back pockets. In order to not lose track of these important pieces of paper, there are a variety of helpful apps for your phone that can easily organize your most recent connections. Follow these tips so that your networking at conferences pays off!
Step 1: Install a Business Card Processing App: This application(or this one – there are several out there!) allows you to take a photo of a business card, quickly convert the information into contact info on your phone, and then provides options for how to connect via social media.
Step 2: Connect Right Away: If you met someone you enjoyed connecting with, Tweet at them then and there! This will save you from trying to find them on social platforms later on. Social media is meant to be used on the spot – you might even share a picture together!
Step 3: Lay Them Out on a Table: Removing the clutter from your new contacts always helps to identify which ones are a priority. Take a picture of your laid out business cards then make a pile of contacts you intend to reach out to in the near future. Throw out the rest of the cards if you don’t think you will need them, as we all know they eventually pile up.
Step 4: Capture All the Cards in Your Keeper Pile: Use the smartphone business scanning app to take a photo of the cards you saved. This way all your contacts are saved on your phone and easily accessible. A painless solution for an often tedious problem!

PR TIP OF THE MONTH |

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words
This month’s PR tip focuses on the importance of visual content in communications. The brain is designed to be drawn to visual imagery, so use as much of it as you can in your next campaign! The solution is simple: if you want to catch the attention of a journalist or your target audience, incorporate pictures, videos, or infographics.
Our Brains Were Made for Visual Content: Our brains are able to process images and videos much faster than written text. This results in visual content having a longer lasting effect on the brain.
Visuals Increase Understanding: When supplemented with pictures or videos, the brain is able to better comprehend concepts. YouTube users often upload “how to” videos to share with the rest of their users, as many tasks are easier to learn when shown rather than read.
Imagery Appeals to Journalists: In a recent survey of media professionals, 54% responded that they were more likely to open a multimedia press release than one made up entirely of text (!). Too much written text can be exhausting to the eye, so liven up your next article or news announcement with a relevant picture. Reporters and news outlets receive dozens, sometime hundreds of press releases a day, so it pays to make yours stand out.
Images Inspire Sharing: What draws people to Facebook or Instagram? These (and other) social platforms are largely based around sharing photos and videos with friends. People are more likely to share an amusing or thought provoking video than a written article with no images.
