Data Center Dynamics featured a piece on Purkay’s recent release of the Audit-Buddy. From the article:
A data center environmental monitoring company called Purkay Laboratories came out of stealth mode earlier this week, announcing commercial availability of Audit-Buddy, a standalone temperature and humidity monitor for data center.
The monitor has three modules and an adjustable carbon fiber stand for monitoring at three different heights simultaneously. It provides time-stamped data that can be used to identify potentially problematic thermal trends.
Indra Purkayastha, the company’s CEO and founder, said the product was an inexpensive way to address thermal issues in a data center. “Purkay Labs designed and developed Audit-Buddy as an inexpensive tool to solve problems experienced by managers of data centers of every size: increasing heat loads and server density.”
Audit-Buddy has two operation modes: QuickScan and LongScan.
QuickScan takes 60 second scans throughout an aisle to establish the current thermal environment and determine if there are any problem areas. LongScan takes measurements in a single location over a longer period of time to identify environmental trends.
The product can help validate whether Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) software are necessary, the company said.
Purkay’s patent-pending technology includes a custom-designed base that limits impact on vertical airflow and a fan design that draws air into its modules.
The company suggests that the product is a good fit for servers, telecom closets and data centers being migratd to a colocation facility, when operators do not want to invest a lot in monitoring equipment.
