Bluestone Energy’s recent retrofit of Mack Technologies’ facility was featured in an article in the Lowell Sun. From the article:
Mack Technologies celebrated its successful effort to reduce energy consumption in an event with state and town officials and industry representatives on Wednesday.
According to Kovach, the new “intelligent” lighting system that includes motion sensors and remote online control took about a month to install and cost $330,000. National Grid provided about $130,000 in financial incentives for the project, including $111,000 in rebate. Federal tax credit was part of the incentives, Kovach said.
Mark Sylvia, commissioner of the state Department of Energy Resources, who attended the ceremony, praised Mack’s effort and the partnership among the company, National Grid and Bluestone Energy of Norwell, which designed the lighting system. The Department of Energy Resources’ goal was to drive down business cost while saving the environment, Sylvia said. Bluestone President Ryan Blair said the project also improved the quality of the work place.
Kovach noted that the energy reduction realized at the plant is equivalent of taking 58 cars off the road. Kovach believes the investment will pay for itself within two years — the standard benchmark for investment for the type of industry the company is in, he said. Without the incentives, it would have taken four years to recoup the cost, he added.
