Third point of presence in Amsterdam will help satisfy demand for global bandwidth needs

AMSTERDAM–Hurricane Electric, the world’s largest IPv6-native Internet backbone, today announced its third Point of Presence (PoP) in Amsterdam at the Interxion Data Centre (AMS8), located at: Pudongweg 37, 1437 EM, Rozenburg Amsterdam The Netherlands.

Based in one of Europe’s best-connected cities, Interxion’s AMS8 data centre boasts 15 megawatts of power capacity, 99.99% uptime, and a direct connection to the AMS-IX, NL-ix and NDIX internet exchanges. Additionally, the facility provides access to more than 45 carriers/ISPs and three IXPs and features a free cooling system, aquifer thermal energy storage, and N+1 generator backup.

Considered one of the most wired countries in Europe, Hurricane Electric’s expanded presence in the Netherlands will provide the bandwidth options that both established and emerging companies have been seeking. Numerous global IT companies have established campuses in the region to utilize its IT infrastructure and tech-savvy workforce, including: Microsoft, Cisco, and Oracle, Verizon and Google. As a result, demand for high-speed IP transit has been steadily increasing.

With the launch of Hurricane Electric’s newest PoP, customers of AMS8 and others in the area now have a variety of new connectivity options as well as the ability to improve fault tolerance, load balancing, congestion management and transit of next-generation IPv6 traffic. Tenants of AMS8 are also now able to exchange IP traffic with Hurricane Electric’s vast global network, which offers over 19,000 BGP sessions with over 6,500 different networks via more than 174 major exchange points and thousands of customer and private peering ports. Most importantly, the PoP provides both new and existing customers with access to Hurricane Electric’s extensive IPv4 and IPv6 network through 100GE (100 Gigabit Ethernet), 10GE (10 Gigabit Ethernet) and GigE (1 Gigabit Ethernet) ports, allowing them to experience increased throughput, reduced latency and improved reliability.
