THE MILLDAM MONTHLY
May/2016
Greetings!
Welcome to the May edition of the Milldam Monthly.
It’s graduation season! This month we explore how to help your email marketing program “graduate” to the next level, as well as offer an actual graduate program to think about: A Master of Science in Data Centers.
Our clients remain active in their industries, continually researching topics, writing articles, and educating the world on the work of data centers and advancements in energy. Read more below about their recent subjects of interest.

We also strive to educate ourselves on new technologies and industries. Our recent venture is microgrids, a rapidly growing facet of the energy industry that is also being examined for its integration with data centers.

Milldam recently attended and supported “New York and Beyond” (above), a conference for the microgrid industry that we co-produced with Microgrid Knowledge. We were thrilled to welcome over 150 attendees to the sold-out inaugural event

PR TIP
Your Email Marketing Program: Class of 2016

Commencement season has arrived,  meaning both graduations and congratulations are in order. Whether you are enrolled in school or finishing an educational program, May is a time when things come to a close before the summer heat hits. If you aren’t enrolled in school any longer but are looking to take your own email marketing campaign to the next degree, consider these tips:

1. Segment your email marketing lists to boost engagement and conversion:

  • Generate content and distribute it only to the contacts it applies to.
  • Organize your contacts based on:
    • status (customer or prospect), industry, location, job title, product/service interests
    • criteria of observed behaviors such as specific web pages visited, content downloaded, particular event attended, etc., and in a specified time frame (last week, month, etc.).
If you are reaching the right people with the right content, your campaign will be more successful in the end.
2. Perform A/B testing to optimize your email marketing campaigns
  • Create two different templates for one email to see which one performs better once sent.
  • Try testing different subject lines, “from” addresses, call-to-action buttons, shorter messages vs. longer messages and different layouts as well as different times of the day.
After you measure the results, (opens, clickthroughs) from each, you can create an email in the future that will perform to its best ability.
3. Utilize automation to enhance your email marketing programs
  • Marketing automation is a software technology that helps companies automate marketing management and customer engagement in order to be more efficient, streamline resources and (ultimately) increase revenue.
Leads captured on your website through a form or landing page should be entered into a lead nurturing drip campaign that sends a series of automated emails to prospects and clients at scheduled intervals. This way you can grab potential customers.

Master of Data Centers

Many of our clients work in the data center industry and have graduated from engineering programs. How many people do you know with a specific degree in data centers? The Southern Methodist University in Texas is offering a Master of Science with a Major in Datacenter Systems Engineering through a program developed within the last two years.
The masters program at SMU covers the industry broadly through five courses. Students can choose to focus on one of three technical areas through elective specializations:
  • Facilities, infrastructure and subsystems
  • Data systems engineering and analytics
  • Computer networks, virtualization, security and cloud computing
The data center industry is growing in importance and facilities require specialized skills to design and operate them. This program is helping to make that happen.
