FEATURED EVENT: “NEW YORK AND BEYOND”

New York and Beyond: Advancing Microgrids Nationally with Lessons Learned in New York

With hundreds of its communities exploring microgrids – and the $40 million NY Prize in full swing – New York is an epicenter of the microgrid revolution. New York policymakers, utilities, investors, and energy and infrastructure companies are laying the groundwork for a first-of its-kind distributed grid in North America.

Microgrid Knowledge is pleased to present a brand-new, unique event created to give you new information and ideas influencing the shape of microgrids today.
MilldamPR is working with Microgrid Knowledge to launch this inaugural event in May! We hope you’ll consider attending if the topic is of interest to you.
WHEN: May 19th, 2016 | 8:00a – 5:00p
WHERE: New York City
WHY: We anticipate well over 100 utility executives, microgrid financiers, commercial and campus energy managers, regulators, policymakers, developers and suppliers of microgrid products and services. Don’t miss the chance to learn from and network with these groups of people.

HUMAN INTEREST
The Very First Website Ever
In honor of our recently launched new website (and glimpse of the evolution of our website over the years), our human interest piece this month travels back in time to the first website ever created. This article was posted on December 21, 2015, which means the first website created was launched 26 years ago!
The very first website ever created was presented on December 20, 1990, by Tim Berners-Lee, a scientist at the CERN research facility in Switzerland. The site explained what the web was, how to use it, and included links to other definitions.
Three years later, Aliweb was pronounced the World Wide Web’s first search engine. Created by Martijn Koster, one of the web’s original creators, the search engine was developed as part of a project for CERN.
Further into the 90’s, The White House joined companies like Bloomberg, Amnesty International, The Economist, Pizza Hut, and Yahoo in becoming the first to take a leap into the new world of the Internet.
Looking back, the Internet has grown enormously over the years. New discoveries and updates have been made and continue to develop everyday. Who knows what the World Wide Web will take on next!?

PR TIP OF THE MONTH R
Need Help With Your New Year’s Resolutions?
The first month of the new year is coming to a close and if you’re like most people, you’ve probably already lost track of or haven’t completely followed through with the New Year’s resolutions you were once so excited about.
The following article will provide you with some tips on how to successfully make and follow through with your 2016 resolutions – it’s not too late!
Change is Good – The start of a new year is a great time to make some changes. It’s important to take a look at what you have accomplished in the past year and to think about what changes you can make in order to reach your goals.
Taking it to the Goal Post – Setting the standards too high for your resolutions can set you up for failure. Dr. Farley, who specializes in motivation and risk-taking, “points out that for most people, adding a behavior is easier than cutting one out.” Instead of trying to completely cut out junk food from your diet, maybe think about making your resolution to eat vegetables everyday.
Strategies for Success – Be specific with your resolutions and make sure to reward yourself when accomplishing them. Set certain metrics so that it is easier to track your progress, such as saving 5% of your paycheck each month.

Mix it Up – Move outside your comfort zone and set new goals for yourself at the start of the new year. Setting the same resolutions can get boring and lead to less likely follow-through. If your resolutions fall through, don’t sweat it. You have a whole year to figure it out!
