Issue: #36
August/2015
Welcome to the August edition of the Milldam Monthly. This month’s issue explores a group that’s of interest to all of us: the media! We work with the media everyday to:

  • Place stories and news items about our clients
  • Set briefings
  • Arrange interviews
  • Network at trade shows and conferences
  • Build lasting relationships between our clients and reporters to establish them as industry leaders in their field

The August Milldam Monthly asks you to take a moment and consider how you should be preparing before talking with the media. Our Human Interest piece moves into music media, offering some playful suggestions for your next playlist. As always, included is recent news on what our clients have been up to as we move into September and information about upcoming events that you might be interested in.

One of the next major conferences that we’ll be attending is the
Critical Facilities Summit!
Let us know if you’ll be there – we’d love to set a meeting or say hello. We also have access to a special discount. If you’d like to attend, give us a call and we’ll see what we can do for you.

As always, if you are looking for PR advice or have questions regarding marketing strategy, please feel free to reach out. In the meantime, follow us on our social media channels to stay informed about what Milldam Public Relations and our clients are up to this month!

PR TIP OF THE MONTH R
 Ready, Set, Interview!
We did it! Somebody from a key publication is interested in talking to YOU……..So now what?

Milldam Public Relations offers a tailored training around communicating with the media for our clients. While there are many things to remember while someone from your business is talking with an industry analyst or reporter, there are several best practices to help you prepare BEFORE the interview happens. Here are a few tips:
  1.  Know Your Messaging | even if you think you know the key points, take some time to work through how you want to quickly and concisely convey the right message to a reporter.
  2. Practice Before You Preach | especially if you’ve never interviewed on this subject before, try out a few talking points or examples on your colleagues before talking to the media.
  3. Address the WIIFM: “What’s In It For Me”
     | it’s critical to gain an understanding of the reporter’s publication and readership so that you’re offering messaging and information that is already on-target with what they’re interested in printing. If your information is too far off-topic, it won’t be of value.
  4. Prepare For The Unexpected | try to anticipate some questions ahead of time, particularly anything that might make you uncomfortable – product release dates, annual revenue, etc. – so that you are prepared with an intelligent answer instead of floundering.
  5. Never Lie and Never Guess | rather self-explanatory, these should be obvious points but are always a good reminder. Even if the interview goes in an unexpected direction, remain true to what you know, don’t lie about anything……and then call your PR firm 🙂
