Bluestone Energy’s President Peter Fairbanks recently wrote an article for EDC Magazine about the Colonnade Hotel partnering with Bluestone Energy Services to implement hotel-wide energy efficiency upgrades.

Colonnade-Chiller-bodyAfter its initial evaluation of the hotel, Bluestone Energy Services successfully secured a $465,000 incentive payment from NSTAR that enabled Bluestone to make numerous eco-friendly improvements to dated, inefficient or otherwise failing systems. First, Bluestone Energy installed a new efficient chiller with frictionless oil-free compressors. This state-of-the-art chiller (pictured at right) has compressors with shafts that levitate in air magnetically, eliminating bearing friction and oil requirements. The new chiller will save the Colonnade 205,000 kWh annually. Along with the chiller, Bluestone Energy Services replaced standard efficiency fan coil motors in the guest room air conditioning units with electronically commutated motors. These are brushless motors that, like the chiller, levitate in air magnetically. The new electronically commutated motors will save 414,000 kWh annually. Furthermore, Bluestone made Ballroom air-handling unit (AHU) modifications that will save the Colonnade 38,000 kWh annually.
